Disabled persons

Wheelchair or scooter

Due to the steep stairs, unfortunately the castle is not accessible for visitors who use an (electric) wheelchair or scooter. We are very sorry about this and are looking for ways to improve this. Until then you can (for a reduced rate) look around the fortress around the castle, visit the permanent exhibition ‘Opgegraven’ in the soldiers’ houses and enjoy our terrace.

In the castle are steep wall stairs with uneven steps. Most stairs do not have a handrail. This can pose a challenge for visitors with walking difficulties.

There are several disabled toilets in the fortress and a wheelchair is available.

Parking

Loevestein has two free parking facilities. A large one for up to 230 cars. From this parking lot it is about a ten minute walk to the fortress.

Disabled persons may drive to the smaller parking lot after the entrance of the castle or can be dropped off at the fortress bridge.

Bicycles

Bicycles are not permitted inside the stronghold except electric bikes being charged. All other bicycles should be locked up outside the stronghold in the designated areas. There is a special bicycle shed outside the fortress. Separate batteries of electric bicycles can be charged at the checkout, but with a limited capacity.

Guide dogs are welcome

Guide and assistance dogs are allowed at no extra cost, provided they are clearly recognizable as such.

If you want to bring a guide dog with you for an overnight stay, a surcharge applies.
Please note: The stairs in the fortress and the access to the monumental overnight rooms are less user-friendly for guests with a guide dog.

Pets are not allowed.
