Loevestein 1, 5307 TG Poederoijen
Tip! The best way is over water
You sail on the Waal, the busiest river in Europe, while you enjoy an amazing view, the beautiful floodplains and the characteristic villages. In the distance you can see Loevestein looming on the horizon. What a way to approach the castle!
With a combination ticket (entrance ticket + boat license) you can sail every day in the high season and every weekend in September between Gorinchem, Woudrichem, Loevestein and Fort Vuren. Read more about the sailing times and departure points of Riveer and the small pedestrian ferry Woudrichem that sails between Woudrichem and Loevestein.

Disabled people can drive to the smaller parking lot, close to the entrance of the castleor can be dropped off at the fortress bridge.
Herd animals in the Munnikenland
In Munnikenland you can encounter herd animals like the Konik horses or the ‘Rode Geus’ Rode Geuzen and Konik horses roam freely here all year round, including on the roads and cycle paths. They can just cross the road and sometimes stand in the way. Stick to the recommended speed of 30 km/h, so you can react in time. The herd animals always have priority. Wait until the animals have moved on and do not cross the herd. Even though they look very impressive, they are not dangerous. Leave them alone, do not pet them and enjoy these beautiful animals from a distance (minimum 25 meters). Feeding is not allowed.

By bike
Enjoy the beautiful nature reserve “Het Munnikenland” when you arrive by bike on the Schouwendijk. The beautiful nature with its flowers, birds, Konik horses and Red Geuzen is very photogenic.
You can park your bicycle at the parking places opposite the bridge on the water. Bicycles are not allowed inside the fortress.
Loose batteries of electric bicycles can be charged free of charge at the cash register (note: limited capacity).
