ADVOCATES FOR PEACE
THE RED CROSS | Guardian of the laws of war
The rules of IHL protect people who cannot — or no longer — fight. They also aim to prevent as much unnecessary suffering as possible. That’s why the Red Cross works worldwide to make sure people know the rules — and that parties to a conflict respect them.
Thanks to donations, the Red Cross can help people in need and spread knowledge of the laws of war. You can also take action as a volunteer!
KIDSRIGHTS | Change is possible
Founded in 2003 and based in Amsterdam, the international children’s rights organisation KidsRights works for a world in which all children and young people can access their rights. Children who stand out in a special way for children’s rights — “changemakers” — receive a (inter)national platform from KidsRights and support for their local actions.
Each year KidsRights awards the International Children’s Peace Prize — the most important youth award in the world. It has a major positive impact on the cause the young laureate champions. The annual ceremony reached 3.8 billion people last year.
KidsRights also conducts research to give children and others insight into the state of children’s rights worldwide through the KidsRights Index, which each year assesses 193 UN member states.
DOCTORS WITHOUT BORDERS | Aid in war & conflict
Life in a war zone is life at risk. Bombardments and shelling in wars or armed conflicts can continue day and night and cause many casualties. Round-the-clock medical care then becomes vital.
Because of war and conflict, men, women and children around the world live in horrific crises. They urgently need medical care. Teams from Doctors Without Borders (MSF) work in conflict areas worldwide. They operate on the principles:
- Neutral: take no side in conflicts.
- Impartial: help everyone and exclude no one.
- Independent: decide for themselves where and whom to help.
With your support, they help those who need it most.
