New Nature
Loevestein Castle is situated on the flood plains of the Waal and Meuse rivers. By allowing nature to run its natural course, a beautiful river landscape has been created with a wide variety of plants and animals. Large grazers have been introduced into the area such as herds of Konik horses and a rare breed of cattle named Rode Geus. 'Rode' is for their red colour and 'Geus' refers to the 'Beggars' who occupied Loevestein in the 16th century. From the Knights Tower in the castle, you can enjoy fantastic views of the surrounding area!
